Stoked that the Cub passed it re-registration test!
Out on the open road I go 🙂 (well actually just around town)
Engine successfully installed back in the frame. Dropped the tank and seat on, mmmm, some issues with fitting them. The tanks not so much of an issue, I think I can figure out how to fit it with a little welding and a hammer. The seat is a bigger issue. Might have to cut and remove a section of the cross member at the back then re-weld for structural integrity.
What a day! Had all sorts of issues with the new taper roller headset bearings. Had to go back to the stock ones in the end, but they are OK. To top it off I knocked the donor bike over onto Anges GSR750 and scratched frame and engine case. I’m very sorry Ange I will try and touch it up soon.
Something is up with swing-arm bushes, need to investigate next weekend. I’m gonna paint the engine and move it over next weekend as well. Starting to look alright now 🙂
I have new shocks on order, should be here next week. Still gotta work out what to do for a front mudguard and I need to shorten the stock rear guard. I have a new number plate holder and rear light on order too. Frame still need work to accept the new tank and seat as well. And then there’s the brakes and electrics….. not looking forward to the electrics.
The Cub exhaust has something loose inside it, so I made a video and sent it to the guy in Thailand I bought it off.
He is sending me a new one at no charge! Result!
Oh how lovely and shiny they are! And yes, I know I need to paint the fame!
Well, I’ve had a busy weekend. I reassembled the Honda engine yesterday and put it back in the frame today. It was all going so well. While I was messing about with the installation I fitted a new rear tire and cleaned up the 50 years of grime from the chain covers and back wheel (thank you Thomas for persevering with that dirty back wheel job and the Dremel). Anyway, the kick starter worked for a bit, then decided that it wouldn’t engage any more, like something was stuck. I think I know what the issue is (my Thailand supplier had the shaft zinc plated and everything is now slightly oversize and “sticky”, I had to polish 0.1mm of zinc plate off the end of the shaft to get it to fit in the crankcase correctly) but I will have to strip the engine again 🙁. I did push start it and had a quick ride down the street and after the valve grind and cylinder hone it was more awesomely powerful than ever 😉 At least 5HP! Next weekend if Ange let’s me I will disassemble and fix the issue.
